Gender equality is important to me because I believe everyone has the right to be happy.
I am gay myself and I believe strongly in equality, especially when it comes to same sex marriage. I believe everyone has the right to speak up and express their views and I would like to inspire other LGBTIQ people to express themselves. I want to tell them, it’s OK to be gay, bi, trans and everything else you want to be.
I also have a disability. As a young male with a disability, it’s hard to find work as people with a disability are often discriminated against. This is also true for LGBTIQ people and often I am picked on and treated badly because I am gay and I have a disability. I understand that everyone has their own opinion, but sometimes people express these views in a way that is hurtful and unkind. This is why gender equality is so important, because everyone should be treated equally no matter their gender, sexuality or disability.
There are many people out there with hearts of gold and I have so many supportive people in my life. I am so thankful for these people and I wish that every LGBTIQ person would feel safe and supported like I do. I believe in love and equality for everyone across Gippsland.
