Orange Round Ambassador: Pip Timms

Orange Round Ambassador Pip

Pip Timms
Former President and current Vice-President Bairnsdale Football Netball Club

I have always been of the opinion that it doesn’t matter what gender you are, local community groups always need willing volunteers to drive success.

Holding my current position as Vice President of the Bairnsdale Football Netball Club after having been the President, I can probably say I was inspired by my father who was on a prodigious amount of sporting committees over his lifetime.  I have always been involved in male dominated roles, having five brothers and three sons, it is the norm to me.  I am constantly promoting and encouraging anyone, but especially women and girls that think these roles are solely for men.  Breaking through the “boys club” mentality can be challenging, however I have always been educating my peers so that we move towards gender neutral conversations.

Women (and diversity in general) add value and bring a different strengths to the table that ultimately enhance the club.  For any young person wanting to get involved, I would say to them, step out of your comfort zone and give it a go. The more help the better in any volunteer role.

If you or someone you know is impacted by sexual assault, family or domestic violence, call 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732 or visit www.1800RESPECT.org.au. In an emergency, call 000.
